Claude skills and plugins directory

Claude skills and plugins from Anthropic: what each one does, where it works and how to install it.

14 listings

Agent Skills are folders of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude loads when a task needs them. Each skill has a SKILL.md file whose name and description tell Claude when to use it; the rest loads only when the skill is triggered, so installed skills take little context until then (Agent Skills overview).

In the Claude apps, Anthropic’s built-in skills for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF files are used automatically when Code execution and file creation is on, and you can turn on example skills or upload your own under Customize > Skills (Use skills in Claude).

A plugin bundles skills with other parts, such as agents, hooks, commands and MCP servers, so they install as one unit. In Claude Code, /plugin install <name>@claude-plugins-official installs from Anthropic’s official marketplace, which Claude Code adds the first time you start an interactive session; any other marketplace, such as Anthropic’s skills repository, is added first with /plugin marketplace add (Install and manage plugins). In claude.ai and the desktop app, plugins are added from Customize > Plugins (Plugins).

Each listing quotes its name and description from Anthropic’s GitHub repositories and links the source. Anthropic describes the example skills as demonstrations, so test one before you rely on it, and read what a plugin installs first: plugins can run hooks and MCP servers on your machine. For writing your own instructions, see the Claude prompting guide and the prompt library.

Sources: names, descriptions and install commands come from Anthropic’s skills repository (github.com/anthropics/skills), its official plugin marketplace (github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official) and the Claude docs linked on each listing. Promptline is not affiliated with Anthropic.
