Claude frontend-design skill: distinctive web interfaces

The Claude frontend-design skill’s SKILL.md describes guidance for distinctive, intentional visual design when Claude builds new UI or reshapes an existing one: aesthetic direction, typography and choices that do not read as templated defaults. It casts Claude as the design lead of a studio that gives every client its own identity, making palette, type and layout decisions specific to each brief.

The instructions ask Claude to ground a design in its subject matter, open a page with the most characteristic thing in that subject’s world, pick one or two typefaces on purpose, keep line lengths under 80 characters and use motion sparingly. Claude works through a short design plan with a compact token system for color, type and layout, reviews it against the brief, then builds and critiques. The skill also lists looks that generated pages tend to share, such as a warm cream background with a terracotta accent, identical rounded cards and all-caps labels above every heading, and tells Claude not to spend free design choices on them; when the brief asks for one of those looks, the brief wins.

In Claude Code, the matching frontend-design plugin in Anthropic’s official marketplace describes production-grade interfaces that avoid generic AI aesthetics, and Claude applies it automatically to frontend work, for requests such as a dashboard or a landing page. The skill is also part of the example-skills plugin from Anthropic’s skills repository. In the Claude apps, example skills are turned on in Customize > Skills, with Code execution and file creation enabled (Use skills in Claude).
