The Claude canvas-design skill’s SKILL.md tells Claude to use it when you ask for a poster, a piece of art, a design or another static piece. Claude produces a single, highly visual page as a PNG or PDF file, mostly image with only essential text, and the skill tells it to create original designs and never copy existing artists’ work.
The work happens in two steps. Claude first writes a design philosophy: a named aesthetic movement described in four to six paragraphs and saved as a Markdown file. It then expresses that philosophy on a canvas, with a limited color palette, sparse typography and every element kept inside the page margins, and takes a second pass to refine the composition rather than add more graphics. You get the PNG or PDF together with the philosophy file. If you ask for more pages, they come in the same PDF or as several PNGs.
The skill is part of the example-skills plugin from Anthropic’s skills repository. In the Claude apps, example skills are turned on in Customize > Skills, with Code execution and file creation enabled (Use skills in Claude).
