The Claude pptx skill’s SKILL.md description tells Claude to use it whenever a .pptx or .potx file is involved, as input or output: creating slide decks, pitch decks and presentations, reading and extracting text from slides, editing existing presentations, combining or splitting slide files, and working with templates, layouts, speaker notes and comments. It also triggers when you mention a deck, slides or a presentation.
In the Claude apps it is one of the built-in document skills: with Code execution and file creation on, Claude uses it automatically when you ask for a presentation (Use skills in Claude). In the Claude API it is one of the pre-built Agent Skills for PowerPoint, Excel, Word and PDF, used with the code execution tool (Agent Skills overview). The skill’s instructions build new decks with a pptxgenjs script, edit existing decks and templates by changing the slide XML inside the file, and read content with markitdown. Anthropic publishes its source as a reference under a proprietary license: source-available, not open source.
