Midjourney Stealth Mode controls who sees creations on its website. It requires an eligible plan and does not hide work generated in a public Discord channel.

Before using a confidential brief, separate three questions: which account feature is enabled, where you are generating, and whether an older creation is still public. A privacy setting is only useful when it covers the route through which the content is being shared.

This guide explains the vendor’s published controls; it is not a claim that a confidential workflow has been tested.

Who can use Stealth Mode?

Midjourney’s official Stealth Mode guide restricts the feature to Pro and Mega subscriptions. It says content already made private stays private on the site after cancellation or a downgrade.

For current subscription details, use the site’s Midjourney Pro plan record and Mega plan record. Decide whether the feature answers your visibility need before comparing the rest of the plans.

Choose the generation location deliberately

The important exception is Discord. A creation made in a public channel remains visible there even when Stealth Mode is enabled. The official guide points users seeking private generation toward the web Create page, Discord direct messages or a private Discord server, with Stealth enabled.

A private server is still a shared environment if other people can enter it. Before submitting a brief, check the channel and audience you selected. Do not treat an account setting as a substitute for checking who can read the conversation.

Set the default and check each prompt

Website and Discord settings are synchronised. The official controls include the Imagine-bar settings panel, the standalone Discord commands /stealth and /public, and the per-prompt parameters --stealth and --public.

Changing the default affects future prompts. It does not retroactively hide older images. In Discord, use /info to inspect Visibility Mode; on the website, use Organize’s Published filter to review what is public.

A practical pre-generation check is:

  1. Confirm that the account has the required plan feature.
  2. Confirm the current default visibility.
  3. Read the full prompt for an unintended visibility override.
  4. Check whether the destination is public or shared.
  5. Remove confidential details that the task does not need.

This is a workflow checklist, not an additional Midjourney feature. It helps prevent a setting from being assumed rather than checked.

Make older creations private separately

An upgrade or new default does not automatically change the visibility of past creations. Open an individual creation from Create or Organize and use its options to change visibility. For a batch, select the relevant items in Organize and use the bulk-change controls.

Work from a list rather than memory. If a project produced many variations, review the project set and note which items you changed. A single private favourite does not establish that every earlier variation is private.

Trashing is not a privacy control

Midjourney warns that trashed creations can remain discoverable through Explore, ranking, a job ID or a creation URL. Use the visibility controls when your purpose is to make work private.

This distinction matters during a clean-up. “I removed it from my working view” and “I changed its publication visibility” are different actions. Record the action you actually performed instead of treating a tidier gallery as evidence of privacy.

A review checklist for a client project

Use a short project-specific record:

Check Question to answer
Input Does the prompt contain private information that can be omitted?
Location Who can access the channel or server?
Default Is the intended visibility mode currently selected?
Override Does the individual prompt change that mode?
Existing work Have older images and variations been reviewed separately?
Sharing Who will receive an exported image or its link?

Stealth describes a visibility control. It should not be read as a complete confidentiality agreement, a deletion guarantee or permission to upload material you are not authorised to share. Review the service terms and your own obligations before using sensitive client material.

Keep generation controls separate from visibility

Speed settings answer a different question. Fast, Relax and Turbo concern generation speed and GPU use; they are not privacy modes. Likewise, a seed is a starting-point control for comparisons, not a secrecy setting.

When troubleshooting, change the control that matches the problem. A public-channel mistake cannot be repaired merely by changing a seed, aspect ratio or speed mode.
