This Midjourney parameters cheat sheet lists each parameter with its default and range, from Midjourney’s own docs. Every value below comes from Midjourney’s Parameter List and the linked article for each parameter. The current default model is V8.2, released as the default on July 24, 2026, according to Midjourney’s Version page.

How to add parameters

Midjourney’s docs give three rules:

  1. Put parameters at the end, after your prompt text.
  2. Leave a space before the dashes, and no space between them: --ar 2:3, not - - ar 2:3.
  3. No punctuation inside parameters: no trailing commas or periods.

Midjourney’s own correct example:

vibrant California poppies --ar 2:3

Listing: vibrant California poppies in portrait ratio. On midjourney.com you can also set defaults for many of these in the settings panel next to the Imagine bar.

The cheat sheet

Parameter Short form Default Range or values What it does
Aspect ratio --ar, --aspect 1:1 Whole numbers only; up to 14:1 in V6, V7, V8.1 and V8.2 (4:1 for HD) Sets image shape: width first, height second
Version --v, --version V8.2 e.g. --v 8.1, --v 7, --v 6.1; anime model with --niji Picks the model
Stylize --s, --stylize 100 0 to 1000 Low follows the prompt literally; high adds artistic freedom
Quality --q, --quality 1 (V7) V7: 1, 2 or 4; V6: 0.5, 1 or 2 GPU time spent on the first grid; affects detail and texture
Chaos --c, --chaos 0 0 to 100 How different the four images are from each other
Weird --w, --weird 0 0 to 3000 Adds unusual, experimental qualities
No --no none One or more words, comma separated Excludes elements; equals a -0.5 prompt weight
Raw --raw off on/off; V5.1 and later Turns off Midjourney’s default styling
Tile --tile off on/off Makes one seamless repeating tile
Seed --seed random 0 to 4294967295 Fixes the starting noise for testing
Image weight --iw 1 0 to 3 (V8.1, V7); 0 to 2 (Niji 7) How strongly an image prompt shapes the result
Style reference --sref none Image URL or style code Copies the look of a reference
Style weight --sw 100 0 to 1000 Strength of the style reference
HD / SD --hd, --sd SD V8.1: HD 2048px, SD 1024px Generates 2K images without upscaling

Notes on the big four

Aspect ratio (--ar). Midjourney images start square. Use a bigger first number for a wide image and a bigger second number for a tall one. Decimals are not accepted, so Midjourney’s docs say to write --ar 139:100 instead of 1.39:1, and to convert 8.5 x 11 inches to --ar 85:110. Extremely wide and tall ratios are “experimental and may produce unpredictable results.”

Version (--v). V8.2 focuses on “aesthetics, image quality, and Personalization” and introduces the Edit Model, which “replaces Omni Reference, Character Reference, and the Retexture tool.” V8.1 is described as the fastest model, with standard jobs rendering “about 4–5 times faster than earlier versions.” Niji 7, launched January 9, 2026, is the anime-focused model.

Stylize (--s). Midjourney describes stylize as a slider between literal and artistic. Default 100, range 0 to 1000 “with the latest Midjourney versions.”

Quality (--q). The Quality page describes V7: default 1, with 2 or 4 using two or four times the GPU time. There is no --q 3; it switches to 4. Quality only affects the first set of four images, not variations, inpainting or upscales. To save GPU time, Midjourney points to Draft Mode (--draft), which generates V7 drafts at half the GPU cost.

Variety and exclusions

Chaos (--c) is called Variety on midjourney.com. At 0 you get four similar images; higher values give results that “may not stick as closely to your prompt.”

Weird (--w) goes up to 3000 and works with Midjourney versions 5 and later. Midjourney calls it experimental and says it is “not fully compatible with seeds.”

No (--no) is the right way to remove things. Midjourney’s docs contrast a bad prompt (“still life gouache painting without any fruit”) with the good one:

still life gouache painting --no fruit, apple, pear

Listing: still life gouache painting without fruit. Each word after --no is read on its own, so Midjourney warns that --no modern clothing is read as “no modern” and “no clothing”.

Raw, tile and seed

  • Raw (--raw) turns off Midjourney’s “auto-pilot” styling. Simple prompts come out more photo-like, and detailed style prompts give you more control.
  • Tile (--tile) produces a single tile whose edges match. Midjourney does not recommend upscaling tiles, because it “will often break the seamless repeating pattern.”
  • Seed (--seed) is for controlled tests. Midjourney says seeds “can’t capture or bookmark a specific style, character, or appearance across different prompts”; use style references or personalization for consistency.

Multi-prompts and weights

A double colon :: splits a prompt into separately weighted ideas. space ship gives spaceships; space:: ship mixes “space” and “ship”. Add a number to weight a part: space::2 ship. Unweighted parts default to 1. Midjourney’s Multi-Prompts article lists support for versions 1 through 6.1 and their Niji versions.

Negative weights are allowed, but the total must stay positive:

still life painting:: fruit::-0.5

Listing: still life painting with a negative weight. Midjourney gives still life painting:: fruit::-2 as the version that fails, because 1 plus -2 is negative. It also shows that vibrant tulip fields --no red equals vibrant tulip fields:: red::-0.5 (listing).

Style references

Add --sref with an image URL or a numeric style code. --sw sets strength from 0 to 1000 (default 100). In V7, --sv picks the style reference version; --sv 6 is the default and --sv 4 is the older V7 model. A style reference needs a text prompt alongside it.
