ChatGPT Pro 500 costs $500 a month and adds Astra Ultrafast to the Pro lineup. OpenAI announced the new subscription on September 29, 2026. Its current help page lists three monthly Pro options: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500. The launch also reopened Pro 200 to new subscriptions, with an important change to the included usage allowance.

What the new plan adds

Pro 500 has the highest included usage of the three Pro tiers. It is also the only personal Pro tier that includes Astra Ultrafast in Work and Codex. Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100, but neither includes Ultrafast.

Buying additional credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock Ultrafast at launch. A higher credit balance and access to a particular speed mode are separate parts of the offer.

OpenAI describes the relative allowances but does not publish a fixed token quantity for each Pro tier in its current Pro help article. The prices therefore cannot be translated into a guaranteed number of prompts, research runs or completed tasks.

Pro 200 returns with a smaller allowance

The monthly Pro 200 price remains $200. OpenAI says new subscriptions without grandfathering receive a lower included allowance than the previous Pro 200 offer.

Some existing subscribers have a temporary transition period. An account qualifies if its Pro 200 subscription was active at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29. Eligible subscribers keep the previous included allowance through October 29 while their Pro 200 subscription remains active. After that date, they move to the lower allowance.

OpenAI says affected users will receive an email with further details. The public help page does not specify a percentage reduction. Claims that the allowance has been cut by a particular fraction need evidence beyond that page.

What to check before upgrading

Work and Codex share an included allowance, while GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat are separate. An upgrade decision should start with the limit that actually interrupts your work.

Ultrafast can also consume the included allowance more quickly: OpenAI lists eight times the Standard-mode consumption rate for the same model. That figure describes allowance use, not a promise that every task finishes eight times faster.
