Claude login not working can mean several different things: the email never arrives, its link opens on a different device, Google authentication fails, or the browser shows an error. Start with the symptom you can see. Anthropic documents separate steps for these cases; buying another plan or creating another account is not a documented fix.

This guide concerns the Claude web, desktop and mobile account. It draws on Anthropic’s account login guide, error-message guide and support guide.

If the login email does not arrive

Claude’s “Continue with email” option sends an email headed “Secure link to log in to Claude.ai.” Anthropic recommends checking spam and junk folders for messages from @mail.anthropic.com, checking quarantined mail, allowing that sender in your email settings and trying again after a few minutes.

A work, government or university address may have an additional mail-security layer. Anthropic notes that users of these addresses may need their IT department to adjust email security settings. A quarantined message is a mail-delivery issue, so clearing browser cookies will not release it.

Check the address you entered before repeating the request. Use the address associated with the account you want to recover. Keep login links and verification codes private; they authenticate access to that account.

If you open the email on another device

Anthropic describes two flows. Clicking the link on the same device where you requested it redirects you to the logged-in account. Clicking it on another device generates a verification code, which you enter on the original device.

For example, if you requested the link in a laptop browser and opened the email on a phone, return to the laptop to enter the code. Opening the email on the phone does not complete the original browser’s authentication by itself.

Follow the current prompt shown by Claude.

If Claude shows “There was an error logging you in”

Anthropic’s error-message documentation gives three browser checks for a generic login error:

  1. Access Claude without a VPN.
  2. Disable active browser extensions.
  3. Clear the browser’s cache and cookies.

Change one thing at a time and attempt the normal login again, so you can see which change affected the result. Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites; keep access to your usual email or Google sign-in method before doing it.

These are troubleshooting checks for your own connection and browser. They are not instructions to bypass an account restriction, an organisation’s controls or Claude’s regional availability rules. If you use a managed computer, ask its administrator about permitted changes.

If you use “Continue with Google”

Claude offers Google authentication alongside emailed login links. Use the Google account connected to the Claude account you intend to access.

Anthropic also documents how to remove an existing Google connection: open Google’s connections page, select “Claude by Anthropic,” open “See details,” then use “Stop using Sign in with Google.” Its login guide says users experiencing Google-login issues can clear that connection and try “Continue with Google” again.

Read the Google screen before confirming a change. Removing a connection changes how the two accounts are linked; it is not the same action as clearing a browser’s cookies. If you prefer emailed login links afterward, use Claude’s “Continue with email” option with the relevant address.

Claude does not currently offer a dedicated Claude-account password, according to its login guide. A request to reset a separate Claude password therefore does not match the documented consumer login flow.

If you signed up with Apple’s Hide My Email

Anthropic says to use the @privaterelay.appleid.com address associated with the Claude account, then choose “Continue with email.” The secure link is forwarded to the Apple ID email.

If Claude for iOS is still logged in, the documented way to find the address is to open your initials at the top right and look under Settings. Use that address when accessing the same account on another device. Substituting your ordinary email can lead you toward a different account.

Check service incidents without guessing an outage

If the email arrived but its link or code still fails, Anthropic recommends noting the exact error and checking Claude’s official status page. An active system-wide incident is a reason to wait for service restoration before further troubleshooting.

A login error alone does not establish an outage. The error guide also distinguishes capacity constraints during chat from service incidents: capacity can temporarily prevent replies even while the system is operating, and those constraints do not appear on the status page.

If you can log in and the message instead says you have reached an allowance or exceeded the chat’s input length, use Claude usage versus length limits. Those are different problems from authentication.

Get account help when login remains blocked

Anthropic’s support guide provides a Help Center route for people who cannot log in. Open the message icon at the lower right, start a conversation and select “I can’t login.”

The guide describes account-deletion, data-export and subscription-support options through this route. For paid subscribers, support can help locate login information, process cancellations and check refund eligibility; it may need to validate account and payment details. This is not a promise of an immediate refund or account recovery.

Keep one support conversation for the same issue. Record the exact error, the device where you requested the link and whether email delivery or authentication failed. Do not include a live login link or verification code in a public post.

Once access is restored, the Claude prompting guide covers how to structure tasks and examples.
